Missy’s Pitcher
It was a treasure I had found for my daughter, who loves old things. It was shipped to my home. When I opened the box, my heart sank. The Dresden China pitcher was broken.
Then I remembered Kintsukouri:“To repair with gold”; the art of repairing pottery with gold or silver lacquer and understanding that the piece is more beautiful for having been broken.”
The message was clear to us, as Sarah and I went to work to glue together the pieces of the elegant China pitcher and fill the cracks with a gold wax finish!
“This is what we do!” Sarah exclaimed while we worked.. “God made my life complete when I placed all the broken pieces before Him.” (Psalm 18: 20 The Message)
When we place the broken pieces of our hearts before the Lord, He puts us back together, and we are somehow better for it.
If we hold onto God in the midst of our pain, and place it all before Him, there can be a transforming power in the brokenness. And the result can be a much more beautiful vessel. To God be the Glory!
